A Year of Wonder: Your Baby's First Milestones

A baby's first year is a whirlwind of growth and development. Every month brings new surprises, from tiny smiles to wobbly steps. Let's explore some of the key milestones you can expect to witness during your little one's first year.

3 Months: Cooing and Smiling

  • Social Interaction: Your baby will likely start cooing and smiling, especially when they see you or hear your voice.
  • Motor Skills: They'll be able to lift their head when lying on their tummy and may even try to roll over.

6 Months: Sitting and Babbling

  • Sitting: With support, your baby should be able to sit up.
  • Sounds: They'll start babbling and experimenting with different sounds.
  • Food: It's time for solids! Introduce purees gradually.

9 Months: Crawling and Understanding

  • Crawling: Most babies will start crawling or scooting around this time.
  • Understanding: They'll begin to understand simple words and gestures.
  • Separation Anxiety: Be prepared for separation anxiety as your baby becomes more attached to you.

12 Months: Walking and First Words

  • Walking: Your baby may take their first steps or be close to it.
  • First Words: They'll likely start saying their first words, such as "mama" or "dada."
  • Independence: Encourage your baby's independence by letting them explore their surroundings safely.

Remember: Every baby develops at their own pace. Don't compare your child to others. As long as they're meeting their milestones within a reasonable timeframe, they're doing great.  If you have concerns though, always discuss them with your child's pediatrician.
